Jim LangDATE
DIAGNOSED: July, 1988
TYPE OF AMYLOIDOSIS: Primary (AL)
WHERE TREATED: Mayo Clinic (as outpatient)
COMMENTS: As of May 16, 2006, I am a 19 (+) year survivor
and have experienced two separate medicine regimens, oral
Melphelan & Prednisone (Aug, 1988 - June, 1991) and oral
Dexamethasone (Decadron) (May, 2001 - Oct, 2005). My most
recent (17th) re-evaluation at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Mn.,
indicated no current amyloid production (FLC Assay) and a
heart wall thickness reduction of 25% since previous test
done in Oct., 2003. Doctor's conclusion was that I am
"stable" and we agreed to a "wait and see" attitude
regarding any further treatment. We are willing to share
with anyone who needs help in learning to "live with this
disease."
