Morie A. Gertz, MD
DR GERTZ is Professor of Medicine and Chair Emeritus of the Division of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr Gertz received his medical degree cum laude from Loyola Medical School in Maywood, Illinois. He completed a 3-year medical residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and was voted Resident of the Year twice. He completed training in hematology and oncology at the Mayo Clinic before doing research at the Thorndike Laboratory at Boston City Hospital. He has authored over 300 papers.
Dr Gertz was advanced to professor in recognition of his contributions to the understanding of multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, and Waldenström's macroglobulinemia. He has served as President of the Mayo Rochester Staff, was awarded the Mayo Distinguished Clinician Award for his contributions to patient care, and the Robert A. Kyle Award for Waldenström's macroglobulinemia.
Dr Gertz currently serves on the Mayo Clinic Rochester Executive Board and is Chair of The Personnel Committee. Dr Gertz is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the Myeloma Subcommittee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, and a member of several professional organizations. He is currently the treasurer of the International Society of Amyloidosis and serves on three journal editorial boards.
Dr Gertz has participated in numerous clinical trials and is a frequently invited lecturer at national and international meetings.
